Today is the big one, at Caterpeople we are dusting off our waterproofs, waxing our walking boots and taking a deep breath as we start out One Million Steps to Christmas challenge in aid of Hospitality Action.
Each of us who are taking part will be aiming to walk one million steps over the next 100 days. This is equivalent of roughly 20 marathons, or 500 miles each, that’s one heck of a lot of steps.
So why are we supporting Hospitality Action?
Well, established in 1837 Hospitality Action, the Hospitality Industry Benevolent Organisation, has offered vital support to all who work, or have worked within hospitality in the UK and who find themselves in crisis.
They support people…
§ Suffering from life altering illnesses
§ Experiencing poverty, bereavement and domestic violence
§ Retired from the industry who may be isolated
The money raised goes towards…
§ Grants for essential items including food, equipment and central heating
§ Supporting our often isolated and lonely retired hospitality workers
§ Running educational seminars advising catering students of the dangers of drug and alcohol misuse.
In 2016 Hospitality Action spent over £660,000 supporting 2,037 hospitality professional as well as supporting more than 100.000 staff at 135 companies through their employee assistance program.
We all know how this very demanding industry can wreak havoc on the lives of the very people who are dedicated to creating special moments, fantastic food and a warm welcome for others. So it’s an honour for us here at CaterPeople to be able to give a little back and support this fantastic cause.
We are hoping to raise a total of £1500 through this challenge
